(TAKE QUIZ AT END TO SCORE LUMENS.)
This article, published by the Sun Newspaper, lends credibility to Mark Cuban’s observations in another Zombie Buzz Coffee challenge – Learn 2 Think Now?
The Sun reports:
Scientists built a robot that can PERCEIVE itself!
The implications of this advancement in technology are groundbreaking.
This breakthrough leads to a future where robots will repair themselves.
In the magazine Popular Science:
Chen, a roboticist who contributed to the creation of the “self-aware” robot said:
“The idea is that robots need to take care of themselves. In order to do that, we want a robot to understand their body.”
Chen and his colleagues published their work in the journal Science Robotics on July 13
The Robot Creates a Mental Model of itself.
The Sun reports:
The researchers surrounded the robotic arm with cameras and fed the video directly into the robot’s “neural network” – its AI mind.
The robot observed itself for three hours, tracking its own position in space in the form of data points – the team later added 10,000 more data points using a simulation, according to the study published in Science.
The team was able to generate a visualization of the robot’s neural network, where the arm would picture itself moving.
The robotic arm could model itself in 3D space with precision accuracy with an error margin of 1%.
Can the Robot be Sentient?
Sentience is when something can experience feelings or sensations. (Read another post on Consciousness.)
A robot that can reflect on its own movements in space and adjust those movements to its environment could equate to a type of feeling…

Creating a robot that can respond to itself seems like it can teach us about our own consciousness. The perception of self seems to be grounded in something greater than what humans will be capable of encoding…interesting times.
When you deal with the Hard Problem of Consciousness, you get to the point of recognizing just how incredible it is to THINK, as a human being!
I wish more people would contemplate so deeply.
This is very interesting! 👀
David Chalmers has explored the consciousness question with the P-Zombie Experiment. You should check it out.
I love coffee and games
this website is so awesome
Heck yeah. The coffee is great too!
Technology is for sure a double edged sword. It is amazing and has changed our lives in many ways, but the possibility of AI being seen as equals to humans is not ok.
The affordability of AI war weapons, like mentioned in Basic Income and AI Wars , should especially be on the minds of policy makers and AI product makers.
