Part 3 in “What is the P-Zombie? – Series

(TAKE QUIZ AT END TO SCORE LUMENS.)

(If you haven’t, see Part 1 of P-Zombie series.)

Galileo Galilei is a legend.

He lived from 1564 to 1642. His work immensely contributed to mankind’s understanding of the world.

He was a polymath – someone who works in and studies a wide array of subjects. His intellect knew no limits. He was a legitimate stargazer!

Galileo Galilei primarily studied astronomy, physics, and engineering. He has been called the father of the scientific method and is an originator of the modern study of physics.

Galileo’s famous hypothesis.

Galileo proposed that two objects of a different mass would fall at the same rate in a vacuum – where wind resistance was not a factor. He is said to have tested this idea around 1590. His idea contradicted Aristotle’s theory that objects would fall at a rate in proportion to their mass

Proving the thought experiment 400 years later!

It wasn’t until the Apollo 15 mission to the moon, nearly 400 years later, that Galileo’s experiment was tested in the vacuum of space.

The Apollo 15 astronauts tested Galileo’s theory by simultaneously dropping a feather and a hammer. They both fell together!
